Team News Grades Teachers Rancho Pico

Jaunuary, 2012

Can you believe we're halfway through this school year? If all goes as planned, we should be visiting Medieval Times this season, along with our annual post-STAR trip to the California Science Center. Additionally, we'll be exploring another possible bike ride, a MetroLink trip to ChinaTown for Chinese New Year, and maybe our 8th Annual TrailBlazer Camping Trip. We hope you'll join us when possible.

The TrailBlazers' teachers sincerely appreciate everything our families have done for us this year. You're GREAT! A special "thank you" for each of the special notes and gifts we received for the holidays. While some of us are still working on eating *every single piece of chocolate!* (there goes Mr. Gately's diet), the letters and cards really help to recharge our spirits as we step into the new year. You've made Rancho Pico the greatest place to work. THANK YOU!

Mrs. Flohr and Mr. Gately are preparing a summer trip to Italy. This will be our 6th journey with TrailBlazers and Friends. Please consider joining us on this remarkable event (NOT associated with Wm. S. Hart Union High School District).

We hope you'll enjoy this video series from our 2008 trip to Italy. (Or at least enjoy Mr. Gately's favorite clip.)

December, 2011

The 8th annual TrailBlazer "Sleep Over" of 103 students was great fun, with the added treat of a total lunar eclipse! Mr. Ritchie and Mr. Gately were joined by those who could resist sleeping (and tolerate the cold night) and we all viewed this spectacular event from 4:15 a.m. until sunrise. After that, a pack of students hit the field for a short game of football. This year's talent show was brief, but was highlighted by an amazing beat-box performance of Jingle Bells by Leonardo. Mrs. Flohr added carolling to this year's line up, and the team put on an incredible show for our neighbors below, who were probably surprised to hear 103 kids singing Deck The Halls. Another high point was the scavenger hunt, with ten teams working together like champs to find and decode all 10 clues. Very impressive teamwork! Oh, yes... the 59 girls defeated the 44 boys in this year's mega-beach-ball volleyball game. Nicely done, ladies!

November, 2011

On Saturday, October 29, the TrailBlazers visited Olvera Street. Thank you to Jack's parents for this very cool video!

On Tuesday, November 8, the TrailBlazers will visited Scooter's Jungle and raised hundreds of dollars for the Newhall Food Pantry. We also collected more than 100 canned food items donated by TrailBlazer families. Thank you for all of your support!

October, 2011

Saturday, October 29 Approximately10:00 to 4:30 - Olvera Street / Metrolink trip is coming soon. We hope you'll join us!

A gigantic THANK YOU to our generous families who purchased magazines, volunteered time, contributed supplies or funds to our team, and especially to the"W" family who donated 400 lunch items to the TrailBlazers on Food Day. It's impossible to describe how much of a difference you are making to the lives of all of our TrailBlazer students.

< < < Right now, TrailBlazer T-shirts are available below-cost ($5.00 each) to all of our TrailBlazer students. Parents might have a slightly higher price (at cost). Contact Mr. Ritchie.

September, 2011

What a fantastic day for a picnic! Dozens of TrailBlazer parents, teachers, students and friends gathered on the Rancho Pico quad Saturday, September 10, to eat food and play games. We enjoyed playing volleyball, bean-bag toss, horse shoes, and stick-walk races - sometimes for prizes! There were Subway sandwiches, chips, and soda for everyone, and the parents donated yummy desserts (there goes Mr. Gately's diet!)

Coming soon:
  • September 10: TrailBlazers' Picnic
  • October 29: Metrolink Train to Olvera Street for Dia de Los Muertos
  • November 8: Scooter's Jungle - Lots of fun and funds for charity!
  • December 9: 8th Annual Sleep Over! < - (a special "Thank you!" to those who helped us raise funds this year. Without your help... no field trip in the spring!)
  • MORE!

Dear Parents, thank you for your generosity. The various donations really do make a difference, but your participation with the children in our team events makes an even greater imact. We sincerely appreciate all you do!

May, 2011

As the year comes near to an end, we would like to thank all of our TrailBlazer families for their never-ending support. While the District is able to provide the basics for each of our students, we appreciate the opportunity to do so much more. We couldn't do it without you. An EXTRA BIG THANK YOU to the TrailBlazer Moms who helped us with our planning. You really made a difference.

Thanks to some extremely generous donations, below are some of the things your support has done for our wonderful team:

Busses for Science Center / Snacks and Games for the Sleepover / Dry-Erase Markers for the students to use on their desktop whiteboards

You make us proud to be teachers. REALLY!

2010 - 2011 The Year in Review

The TrailBlazers' trip to Castaic Lake for our annual camping trip was a wonderful experience for all who attended. This was the first year we camped away from McGrath State Beach, and we all had a great time (even Mrs. Flohr, who broke her knee cap!) Thanks to all of the parents who found the time to bring students for the weekend.

The TrailBlazers' visits to Scooters Jungle this year marked another round of successful fundraising for the Newhall Food Pantry. THANK YOU!
